Daily Echo Review by Sarah Cartlidge

Bournemouth Daily Echo published the following short review of 'Life Under The Sun' in yesterday's newspaper under the "What's On Live!" section;

"Poole alt-rockers Oposium deliever their debut 12-track album, and boy have their creative juices flowed. Epic and accomplished, Life Under The Sun showcases the quartets musicianship in abundance and its clear that they have pushed themselves creatively. The band successfully manages to pull off songs that live up to the sheer magnitude of their soundscapes."

Save Bournemouth Theatre In Education!

Save Bournemouth Theatre In EducationAfter an article was posted on the Bournemouth Echo website, it came to our attention that the local theatre group Bournemouth Theatre In Education has been wrapped up.

Oposium singer and guitarist Richard was contracted as a pianist in the last year for various productions and learnt a great deal from co-director of the company Sharon Muiruri. In a article on Facebook, Richard quotes "...BTiE certainly helped me loads; gave me a lot more confidence and experience with performing and through Sharon taught me a huge amount about drama (which being a musician I didn't know) - probably wouldn't do what I do today if it hadn't been for this..."

The article published in the Bournemouth Echo reads as follows;

Jane Portman, executive director of children and families’ services at Bournemouth council, defends the decision to shut down the town’s outstanding Theatre in Education team in a disturbingly bland, tick-box manner (Daily Echo, April 17).

In expecting the service to pay fully for itself, the decision-makers show no understanding of the value of what they are throwing away.

Over many years, this tiny team with a national and international reputation has engaged with countless young people, as well as adults.

A strong ethical dimension has always driven their high quality work: in extending empathy, exploring different perspectives, and educating heart and mind. Director Tony Horitz has set up two disability theatre groups, members of which have surpassed expectations – their own and others – in challenging stereotypes and opening dialogues with young audiences.

Co-director Sharon Muiruri initiated and helped develop the extraordinary Vita Nova theatre group of recovering addicts.

Vita Nova is now self-sustaining and restoring lives while speaking to new generations.

How can we “price” this contribution to our community? Similarly, how do we assess the value of an invitation for a group of disaffected youngsters to perform their play in Latvia?

I have personally witnessed, over 20 years, our Theatre in Education team uphold their commitment way beyond the call of duty.

Instead of celebrating a wonderful record of work, Bournemouth council is dispensing with it, in a manner that is both tawdry and irresponsible.

Ahead of the concert this Saturday, Oposium have been featured in the Daily Echo under the local bands section. Oposium only discovered that the article had gone to print in the Daily Echo after several people told us that we were in the newspaper. Funnily, the feature appeared opposite a Status Quo review! After picking up a back copy this morning from the Daily Echo offices in Poole, here is the article...
